Midland fourth-grader wins MSFF Woodly the Elf poster contest

ELKINS — The Mountain State Forest Festival has announced that Makenna Sfameni was chosen the winner of the annual Woodly the Elf poster contest for the 87th autumn celebration.

Makenna is a fourth-grade student at Midland Elementary, where she was announced as the winner during a school assembly in front of her peers. She is the daughter of Ashley and Michael Sfameni of Elkins.

MSFF Director General Lisa Shaffer, unveiled Makenna’s imaginative work that reflects this year’s MSFF theme, “Embrace Nature’s Charm.”

MSFF Queen’s Department Director Megan Casto, and Queen’s Department Assistants Hannah Shiflett and Allicen Simon, were also present for the ceremony.

Makenna was presented with a CBWV goodie bag from Senior VP & Marketing Officer, Kathy Leombruno. Citizens Bank of West Virginia is the sponsor of the festival’s official mascot.

Mackenna will become a member of the Royal Minor Court of Queen Silvia LXXXVII and will make appearances at the Buckwheat Festival and Strawberry Festival.

More than 25 posters were submitted to compete in this year’s poster contest. The Woodly the Elf contest is open to Randolph County students in second, third or fourth grades — including home school, private or public schools.
