2010 Maids of Honor Announced
Mountain State Forest Festival Director Kenna Barger announces the appointments of Ellyson Anne Schumacher and Sarah Gray Talbott as Maids of Honor to Queen Silvia LXXIV. Schumacher and Talbott are bestowed with the highest Randolph County honors in the Forest Festival’s 74th royal court. Seventeen-year-old Ellyson “Elly” Schumacher, a senior at Elkins High School, is the daughter of Steve and Amy Schumacher of Elkins. She is vice president of the Senior Class Council, a member of Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and formerly served on Prom Council. Captain of the school’s girls soccer and basketball teams, Elly was named 2nd Team All Conference in soccer and 2nd Team All Conference/Honorable Mention All State in basketball both her junior and senior year. Elly was elected maid of honor to the 2009 Elkins High School Homecoming Court and represented the freshman class in the 2006 homecoming court. She attended West Virginia Rhododendron Girl’s State and received designation to Who’s Who Among American High School Students. The 2010 Maid of Honor is a Highland Scholar, Promise Scholarship, and Athletic Scholarship recipient. Enrolled as a freshman exercise science major at Davis & Elkins College, she will become a member of the women’s basketball team. Maid Schumacher has two brothers, Ryne and Read. She is the granddaughter of John and Molly Busch and Greg and Nancy Schumacher, and the great-granddaughter of John Busch,Sr. – all of Elkins. Elly’s mother, Amy Schumacher has served as an Assistant Director for six years and served as crown bearer in the 1967 royal court. Her grandmother, Molly Busch, served as Director General in 1992 and is a member of the MSFF Board of Directors. Elly served as a flower girl in the 2000 Forest Festival. An avid basketball competitor, Elly was a member of the WV Tornados AAU Basketball Team, based in Charleston, for seven years. For the past three summers, she has been employed as a lifeguard at the Elks Pool. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church where she has been an active member of the youth group. Sarah Talbott, a sophomore at West Virginia University, is the daughter of Darroll and Cindy Talbott of Elkins. She graduated from Elkins High School in 2009 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. A four-year member of the EHS marching band, she served as section leader and band council vice president. During her Randolph County school years, Sarah was a six-year participant in the Old Brick Playhouse Apprentice Program and a ten-year piano student. She previously served on the WV Youth Presbyterian Council and received designation to Who’s Who Among American High School Students. The eighteen-year-old Maid of Honor is a Promise Scholar and a member of WVU’s Alpha Lambda Delta Honorary Fraternity, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and has been named to the WVU President’s List. Currently pursuing a major in elementary education, Sarah is also a member of Campus Crusade for Christ. Over the summer, Maid Talbott will work with Elkins Park and Recreation and as an interim Christian Education Director for the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church where she is a member. Her pastimes include quilting, sewing, reading, camping and piano. The 2010 Forest Festival Maid has one brother, Samuel Talbott. She is the granddaughter of the late Darroll and Ella Rose Talbott, and the late Russell and Rachel Ward. Sarah previously served as a flower girl in the 1999 Forest Festival. Her father, Darroll Talbott, is a former MSFF assistant director. “On behalf of the Mountain State Forest Festival Association, I wish to congratulate Maids Elly Schumacher and Sarah Talbott on their appointments to the court of Queen Silvia LXXIV,” commented Director General Kenna Barger. “We’re very fortunate to have two exceptional young ladies representing Randolph County in these prestigious festival positions. Both have grown up in festival families and it is with pride I present them as our 2010 maids of honor.” Elkins will host the 74th Mountain State Forest Festival October 2 – 10.
